Final Piece
Final Piece:
This is my final piece for unit 4, overall I am happy with the outcome as it looks professional and tidy, I believe that this book would appeal to young children from the ages 9+ as it has a lot of the characteristics of children's books aimed at this age groups such as Light colors and mythical creatures, but the cover also carries a more clean/sensible look to it which is not normally what you would expect with a children's book but I believe this could appeal to the targeted age group as at that age they might be thrown of by childish drawings and messy covers.
My final piece shows the subject matter of flaws through the girls cape as the inside outline of it carries a wolf figure which links to the book as the wolf is always following her, which shows that she is flawed by the wolfs persistent tracking go her.

Final Piece (WIP) - Photoshop
Work in progress - Photoshop
After creating my vector main character in illustrator I then began adding further and main details on photoshop, these were things like Barcode, Authors name etc...., the reason I used photoshop is because it allows me to make adjustments to my vector image and it allows me to add text easily and arrange things easily.
The first thing I did in photoshop was adding some shading to my final piece I did this by using the brush tool with 0% hardness on this means that when you use the brush it is more like an air brush rather than a solid block, I then added the shading and then turned the opacity down on the layer so it looked more realistic and cleaner, after this I added the authors name to the front cover, as this is a typical convention for book covers.
I then began working on the spine of my book, to create this I used the shape tool to graphed the main segment of the spine, after I had created the base of the spine I began adding details such as the publishing logo, which was penguin publishing, I then added the authors name and the book name, with the book name I made the 'Red' of little red riding hood red I did this by highlighting the text and using the dip tool to select the same red as the cloak.
After creating the spine I began creating the back cover I started doing this by creating a basic shape which would go on the back of it and then I added a wolf silhouette onto the back to make it a bit more detailed and less dull, I also added a slight inner shadow to give the back cover some depth.
After creating the basic back cover I added details such as the blurb, the title of the book, a barcode, publishers logo and the authors name and website, when creating the book name on the back I wanted to carry on the theme of having the 'red' in little red riding hood being red so what I had to do was put a white shape behind the word 'red' and this allowed me to make this text red.

After creating the back cover I began working on the flaps of the book, with the flaps I just added little details about the author and about different fairy tales that might interest the reader I also added some copyright information on the back flap.
These are the layers I used to create my final piece, by organizing my layers I saved so much time as I didn't have to search around for things such as text and the barcode, also it allowed me to hide the whole layer and focus on one page e.g. the back cover.

Final Piece (WIP) - Illustrator
Work in progress - Illustrator:
To begin creating my final piece I used illustrator to create the main character/subject of my final piece this was the woman in the hood (Little red riding hood), the reason I used illustrator is it allows me to crate vector based shapes/images this means that the images I create will not have pixels in them which makes the images look better.
The first step to creating my vector image for my final piece was to create an outline of the image I was creating this gives me a basic idea of where to put things and what the main image might look like when complete it also allows me to see where I need to put in more detail.
I then began creating the facial features of my character to do this I used the pen tool to graph a basic outline of the features, and then after doing this I then began coloring the image to do this I used the color palette to make sure I got the right colors, after coloring the image I noticed that the lips and face didn't have much detail so I then added some little adjustments to the face and lips. (The reason I didn't add all the facial features is I believed that it looked better just with the simplicity of the one facial features.
After creating the face for my final piece I began creating the body/cloak of my main character to do this I used the same steps as creating the face, the only difference is I used a lot more colors when creating the body/cloak and I also used a partial gradient.
After finishing of the 'Character' I began working on the text, to create this text I used the text tool and used the Typeface called Baskerville, the reason I chose this font is because I believe it works well with my front cover and suits the genre of book which is 'Fairy Tales' this is because usually on Fairy Tale book they use old style serif fonts.
After finishing off the type I made a few minor adjustments with the color and with the text, overall I was pleased with the final character, after making this character I will now bring it into photoshop to finish creating my final piece by adding the general features of a book cover.

Emulation/Experiment 2

Emulation 2
To create this Emulation I used Illustrator, the reason I used illustrator is because it creates solid vector base images, also it is the quickest way to create lots of shaped images.
This emulation is a follow on from my first copy and emulation, but I have tried to use the simple vector shape idea and try to make it more detailed, to do this I have tried to create the whole body of the wolf instead of just the head and try to use more shapes when creating the wolf.
The first step to creating this emulation was to create a basic outline of the vector image I was going to create, to create this outline I used my Graphics tablet and drew it on photoshop, the reason I used photoshop to draw the outline is because you can get pressure sensitivity which allows to make different thickness of lines the harder you press on the tablet.
After I had finished drawing the outline I dragged it on to Illustrator and then image traced it so that the lines were vectored and were not pixelated after doing this I began vectoring inside of the shape to create the fur effect of the wolf, I also brought the color window up so that I could pick the specific colors I wanted.
I then began creating the body of the wolf to create this I used the same process of the previous step, with the back legs I changed the color to make them look further back.

Colored Final Draft
Colored final draft:
After looking at lots of different color schemes I have decided to use the monochromatic color scheme as I believe this looks the best and utilizes the red color scheme I had originally planned which links in with the title as it is 'Little Red Riding Hood'
