The first step I took when creating this copy was to create the main shape of the piece, I did this because it makes it easier to judge where the other shapes have to go and it allows me to position it in the right place.

I then added a grid to the page, I did this to show me generally where the main features of the piece had to be i.e. Eyes, Nose and Mouth, This helped a lot when creating the piece. 

I then create the shadows of the piece I did this by creating angled shapes with the pen tool and then using the fill tool to make them black once I had done this I lowered the opacity to make the shadows the right color.

I then began adding the shapes into the piece, to make sure I got the shapes correct and in the right position I had the original version next to it so I could make sure that everything was going where it should and so it looked correct.

After I had created and added all the shapes I then began trying to get them all the right color to do this I brought up the swatches window and began to create new swatches and add them to the shapes after I had colored the whole piece I added a few final touches and then it was complete.
